IRCTC Tatkal Ticket Booking Timings and Charges

IRCTC Tatkal Timings and Tatkal Charges: The Tatkal Scheme is an Indian Railways scheme for journey at very short notices. It is for reserved class in almost all Mail/Express trains in India. The Tatkal Charges have been fixed as a percentage of fare at the rate of 10% of basic fare for second class and 30% of basic fare for all other classes.

The ticket booking under Tatkal scheme opens at 10 a.m on the previous day of journey from train originating station (i.e one day before). However, the day of journey is defined as the day of chart preparation. For AC seat 10 AM is booking start time and 11 AM is start time for SLEEPER or Non AC seat.

There will be no separate Tatkal train defined. The Non-utilised Tatkal tickets are released to wait-listed passengers. The Confirmed tatkal tickets can be cancelled but no refunds will be provided. But waitlisted tatkal tickets can be cancelled with refunds.

In some trains and in those classes where average utilization of Tatkal accommodation during the peak period of April to September is 80% and above, the Tatkal charges that are applicable during peak period will be charged throughout the year that is, for both peak and non-peak periods. A new booking system called Premium Tatkal has been introduced where these tickets can be purchased only by passengers online, not by outsiders.
