1. Ten years ago, P was half of Q in age. If the ratio of their present ages is 3:4, what will be the total of their present ages?

Answer : Option A

Explanation :

Let the present P and Q age is : 3x and 4x respectively.
whenever comes these type of questions like ten years "ago"(-) Page is 3x-10 and Q age is 4x-10.
Ten years ago, P was half of Q in age
=>(3x–10)=½(4x–10)
=>6x–20=4x–10
=>2x=10
=>x=5

Total of their present ages = 3x + 4x = 7x = 7 × 5 = 35

2. Father is aged three times more than his son Ranjit. After 8 years, he would be two and a half times of Ranjit's age. After further 8 years, how many times would he be of Ranjit's age?

Let Ranjit's present age be x years.
if Ranjit's age = x then Father's age = 3x
But Here given statement 3 times more than his son. so 4x.
Then, father's present age =(x + 3x) years = 4x years.
(4x + 8)=5/2(x + 8)
 8x + 16 = 5x + 40
 3x = 24
 x = 8.

after further 8 years,

Hence, required ratio
=>4x+8+8=x+8+8
=>(4x+16)/(x+16)
=>48/24=>2

3. Raju age after 15 years will be 5 times his age 5 years back, What is the present age of Raju

Explanation:

Let the present Raju age is x, After 15 years Raju age is x+15
If the present Raju age is x, 5 years back Raju age is x-5
Raju age after 15 years will be 5 times his age 5 years back

4. The ratio between the present ages of P and Q is 6:7. If Q is 4 years old than P, what will be the ratio of the ages of P and Q after 4 years

If Q is 4 years old than P

5. At present the age of the father is five times that of the age of his son. Three years hence, the father’s age would be four times that of his son. Find the present ages of the father and the son.

Explanation:

Let the present age of son = x years.
Then, the present age of father = 5x years.
3 years hence.i.e after three years (x + 3) = 5x + 3
The father’s age would be four times that of his son
4(x + 3) = 5x + 3
or,   4x + 12 = 5x + 3
x = 9 years.
Therefore, son’s age = 9 years
and father’s age = 5x=5x9=45 years.
